Here are some bits and pieces of The Doors history sprinkled around Venice Beach. Some of it gone and some of it still up.

A verse from Jim's poetry is etched into the wall of the Police Substation:

Great "young lion" mural at the Ellison:

Pam allegedly stayed at the Ellison and when it was being renovated in 2015, her diary was found. Don't know how true that is. Philomena Long, a Venice Beach poet that lived in Venice when Jim lived there, said that Jim used to sleep on the roof of the Ellison. And the Ellison itself says Jim stayed in room 205 with a woman named Victoria. Room 205.

Some claim that Jim slept on the roof of his film school buddy's apartment here. But I don't know, it seems kind of sketchy for some reason. They call the apartments "The Morisson" written in the style of the doors logo. Not sure if that's still up there.

There's always murals popping up here and there. Some aren't quite good enough to post, but I liked this one:

It was great to see Robby Krieger play at the Brig in Venice. Totally unexpected. The Brig tweeted about it the day of. He also played at Beyond Baroque a few days later. Krieger's book is the best history of the Doors.

Densmore's book was good, too. Here's Densmore performing at Beyond Baroque.

Babe Hill, Jim's drinking buddy/film crew guy, used to get hamburgers with Jim at Hinano's on Washington Blvd.

Ray and Robbie showed up to do something with Skrillex. Here they were at the former Zelda's deli across from The Morrison Apartments. RIP Ray!

According to Ray Manzerek in his book Light My Fire, the Doors rehearsal space was at Northstar and Speedway. It was seen in the background of a movie called Model Shop. It's just a giant condo building now and nothing to see, but what a space back in the day. I made a video of the footage from Model Shop and the location today.

At Brooks and Pacific is the spot of another photo shoot:

But it doesn't look like that today. More photos from the shoot on Brooks Ave.

The pagodas on the boardwalk still look the same though!

The canals still have their bridges.

Jim moved into a place in the Canals with Felix Venable and Phil Oleno. Ray described Felix as a "reprobate" and Phil as "brilliant but unstable".

January 4th was declared the day of the Doors. It was great to see the Doors logo under the Venice sign.

At the Baja Cantina an autographed pic of Jim and Pam hangs.

The Venice Whaler has few classic pics and a mural.

You can see Cronk's mural from the Hotel Erwin rooftop.

A lot of art in every hallway in the Hotel Erwin including some great pics of Jim by Douglas Kent Hall:

The Animal House clothing store in Venice on Windward has some great magazine covers framed and hung on their walls.

TheVeniceWest on Lincoln Blvd has Doors cover band Peace Frog playing a few times now. They sound exactly like the Doors sounded in their live performances.

The Venice West also has some cool memorabilia on the walls.
